DuPont Engineering Polymers (www.dupont.com) officially started construction of its new production facility for Vespel® parts and shapes, when it hosted a ground-breaking ceremony at the site in Singapore on 30th October 2006. Guests of honour at the ceremony included Ms. Aw Kah Peng, director of Chemicals Cluster, Singapore Economic Development Board, Mr. Hsing Ho, managing director, DuPont Singapore and Mr. William F Weber, global business director, Vespel® parts and shapes. The new facility is the investment in one of DuPont Engineering Polymers’ highest-growth businesses –DuPont™ Vespel® parts and shapes. “Industry demand for metals-replacement technologies that reduce weight and cost is driving a step-change for our business. A Singapore facility together with other Vespel® production facilities in Ohio, Delaware, Belgium and Japan would help us meet burgeoning demands both globally and locally. The new site will support our customers with on-time delivery of the same, high-quality product,” said Mr. Weber. The new Vespel® facility is expected to be operational in early 2008. DuPont offers five families of Vespel® parts and shapes that meet stringent requirements for weight reduction, long service life, chemical exposure and/or extreme temperatures. These parts and shapes, many of which are manufactured from high-performance polyimide resins, range from seal rings and couplings to engine clamps and replace metal and ceramics for lower cost of ownership and better durability. Primary markets are global aerospace, semiconductor, industrial and transportation industries, as well as in office machine and pump applications. |
