Prent: US plastics processor builds new plant in New Mexico

The US plastics processor and packaging manufacturer Prent Corp. is planning to build a new production plant in the state of New Mexico.

According to the New Mexico Economic Development Agency (NMEDD), the plant is to be built at the Santa Teresa site on the borders to Texas and Mexico. Prent plans to invest around USD 12.5 million there in the construction of facilities for the production of solid packaging materials. Construction work on the approximately 5,800 square meter plant is scheduled to begin shortly, with production scheduled to start in the fall of next year. Initially, no precise details are available on the planned capacities, but it is already expected that around 85 new jobs will be created in Santa Teresa.

NMEDD representative Alicia J. Keyes said: "New Mexico's incentives and our logistical advantages help companies like Prent to reposition production to benefit from new supply chains. Santa Teresa, with its international border crossing and Union Pacific's intermodal logistics complex, will help Prent expand its markets and help the state create better-paid manufacturing jobs."

Prent Corp. is headquartered in Janesville, Wisconsin, and primarily manufactures rigid plastic packaging using a thermoforming process for the medical and electronics industries. To date, the company has ten production sites in the USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Denmark, China and Malaysia with a total of around 600 employees. According to media reports, Prent's annual sales amount to approximately USD 175 million.
