BB Engineering: Installation of 360 mm PET Single-Screw Extruder

BB Engineering GmbH has successfully commissioned two newly developed single-screw extruders with a screw diameter of 360 mm. According to the company, these are currently the largest single-screw extruders of this size for processing PET. The systems were recently installed at a customer site in China and are part of Brückner BO-PET film lines for the production of high-performance optical films.

The extruders feature a performance-optimized barrier screw design and achieve throughputs of up to 5,400 kg/h. The screw measures 11.5 m in length with a diameter of 360 mm. With a total length of over 14 m and a weight exceeding 46 t, the manufacturing, transport, and assembly present high technical and logistical challenges. The units are driven by two water-cooled motors, each with an output of 700 kW.

With this new size, BB Engineering is expanding its portfolio in the field of PET extrusion for high-performance applications. The 360 mm extruders are designed for use in high-capacity film lines, particularly for applications with stringent quality requirements in the optical film sector.

BB Engineering GmbH was founded in 1997 as a joint venture between Barmag (now part of the Rieter Group) and the Brückner Group. Based in Remscheid, the company employs around 150 people and develops and manufactures extrusion, mixing, and filtration technologies, complete spinning lines, and recycling technologies for the plastics and textile industries.
