Amcor: Plant expansion in Italy

Packaging group Amcor has expanded its film production capacities in Lugo di Vicenza in northern Italy.

According to a press release, a new production line for recyclable high-barrier films has recently gone into operation at the site north of Vicenza. This will enable the large-scale production of barrier films for flexible packaging such as lidding films and pouches. These also include recyclable materials under Amcor’s “AmLite HeatFlex” brand for so-called retort applications, i.e. packaging for hot-air sterilized foods and medical products.

As part of the project, the Lugo site was expanded by a total of around 7,000 m² of production, laboratory, and warehouse space. Amcor did not disclose any more precise details on the newly created production capacities in its current announcement. No information is available either on the level of investment associated with the expansion project.

Combined with the expertise of the Amcor team, this expansion will support our customers in switching to recyclable packaging and contribute to a more circular packaging industry.”

Amcor, which is registered in Zurich, is listed on the stock exchanges in New York (NYSE) and Sydney (ASX). In May last year, the group, originally based in Melbourne, Australia, completed the acquisition of US-based Berry Global, creating a world-leading provider of packaging solutions with more than 75,000 employees at around 400 sites in more than 40 countries.

In the first half of fiscal year 2025/2026, Amcor generated total sales of USD 11.194 billion and achieved EBITDA of USD 1.736 billion and net profit of USD 1.29 billion.
