Tecnimont: Subsidiary NextChem plans „NXReplast“ plants in Africa and Asia

Technology company NextChem is evaluating the construction of new plants for processing plastic waste in Southern Africa and Southeast Asia.

In a press release issued recently, the company, which belongs to the Italian industrial plant engineering group Maire Tecnimont, announced that it had been awarded contracts to prepare the corresponding feasibility studies. According to the statement, the planned plants are to use NextChem’s “„NXReplast“” technology for the mechanical upcycling of plastic waste and the production of new compounds.

According to the release, one site in Southern Africa is planned to host an „NXReplast“ plant with the capacity to process 25,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year from industrial and household sources. This project is being developed by a major industrial company from the region that was not identified by name. In Southeast Asia, another unnamed large company is planning, together with NextChem, the construction of an „NXReplast“ plant with an annual capacity of up to 40,000 tonnes.

„NXReplast“ enables the upcycling and subsequent compounding of polypropylene and polyethylene materials, as well as mixed plastic waste streams (PP, PE, PO, PS, ABS, PVC, PA). At Bedizzole near Brescia in the northern Italian region of Lombardy, NextChem subsidiary MyReplast Industries operates a reference plant for this technology, which now has the capacity to process more than 40,000 tonnes of solid plastic waste per year.
