According to their own statements, Polykemi and Rondo Plast have invested just under SEK 25 million (approx. EUR 2.3 million) over the past two years in expanding their recycling capacities. As a result, production capacity for recyclates will increase by a total of around 7,500 tonnes per year. In 2024, the companies commissioned an Erema system with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes per year. In March 2026, this was followed by a “ReadyMac” unit adding a further 2,500 tonnes per year. This will allow larger parts of the processing to be handled in-house, process stabilizers to be added at an earlier stage, and quality assurance to be improved. At the same time, the companies are expanding their raw material base. They can now also process new material streams such as marine ropes and nets, bottles, as well as increasing volumes of nonwoven and fiber-based materials. This is intended to improve the availability of suitable recycling materials. Until now, the focus of PCR materials had been on PP and PE. In the future, engineering plastics such as PC, ABS, PS, and PA can also be processed. According to the companies, this is made possible in part by laser filters that remove impurities down to 100 µm. With these investments, Polykemi and Rondo Plast aim to secure the supply of high-quality recyclates, expand their portfolio of recycling compounds, and prepare for increasing regulatory requirements.
