Arlanxeo and Covestro are expanding their collaboration to reduce the carbon footprint of synthetic rubber production. Since January 2026, Arlanxeo has been using ISCC PLUS-certified chlorine from Covestro throughout the production of chloroprene rubber (CR) for its “Baypren” product portfolio. The chlorine supplied by Covestro is produced using electricity from renewable sources. According to Arlanxeo, this reduces the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of the “Baypren” portfolio by an average of around 20% compared with 2025 levels. The exact reduction depends on the specific product grade. With this change, Arlanxeo aims to lower the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) of its CR portfolio and provide customers throughout the value chain with more reliable data on the environmental impact of the materials used. Chloroprene rubber is used in applications across the automotive, construction, industrial, and adhesives sectors, among others. Covestro supports the transition as a supplier of ISCC PLUS-certified chlorine from appropriately certified production sites. According to the companies, the collaboration demonstrates how certified raw materials and renewable energy can help reduce product-related emissions in downstream applications. In addition, Arlanxeo offers “Baypren Eco” grades that combine ISCC PLUS-certified chlorine with ISCC PLUS-certified butadiene. This is intended to enable further reductions in environmental impact without changing material performance. More information: www.arlanxeo.com, covestro.com |
