Univar Solutions: Acquisition of Interpur Chemicals and H.M. Royal

U.S.-based chemical distributor Univar Solutions has expanded its specialty chemicals business in Europe and the United States through the acquisitions of Interpur Chemicals and H.M. Royal.

As Univar Solutions announced at the end of July, the company has acquired European distributor Interpur Chemicals. The company distributes polyurethanes and powder coatings and has more than 20 years of experience in chemical raw materials and technical consulting for the polyurethane, resin and powder coatings industries. As part of the transaction, 18 employees will join Univar Solutions.

According to Univar Solutions, the acquisition strengthens the technical capabilities and regional coverage of its Performance Materials business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Univar specifically points to the combination of Interpur Chemicals’ local market expertise with its own supplier relationships and distribution network.

In early August, Univar Solutions also announced the acquisition of U.S. distributor H.M. Royal. The 101-year-old, family-owned U.S. company specializes in specialty raw materials and additives for applications including rubber, plastics and adhesives. According to Univar, H.M. Royal’s portfolio comprises more than 1,000 chemical product grades. The company operates ten warehouse locations across the United States.

H.M. Royal will also become part of the Performance Materials business within Univar Solutions’ Ingredients + Specialties division. Through the acquisition, Univar aims in particular to expand access to specialty products and technical expertise as well as enhance supply capabilities for customers in the United States. H.M. Royal has a particularly strong presence on the country’s East and West Coasts.

Univar Solutions did not disclose financial details of either acquisition.
