BYK: Expansion of High-Performance Additive Production in Schkopau

Specialty chemicals manufacturer BYK has expanded its production and storage capacities at its Schkopau site in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the company, around €12 million has been invested. The new facility at the Dow ValuePark was officially inaugurated on August 21, 2026.

At the heart of the expansion is a new extrusion line. It enables BYK to manufacture products in granule form in Schkopau that are used, for example, in glass fiber sizings and household appliances. According to the company, this increases the site's production capacity by around 25%. In addition, a warehouse with 600 additional pallet spaces and a loading ramp for containerized goods have been built.

BYK primarily produces high-performance modifiers for thermoplastics in Schkopau. The site employs around 50 people and has been part of BYK-Chemie GmbH since 2011. The additives produced there and marketed under brands including “SCONA” are used, for example, as adhesion promoters in plastics and plastic composites. According to the company, around €27 million has already been invested in the site over the past 15 years.

The current project also includes a new heating concept that uses heat recovery and heat pumps and does not rely on fossil fuels. As part of a further project, BYK says it aims to eliminate the use of fossil energy entirely across the site by the end of 2027.
