Konica Minolta has launched its "SpectraMagic CMS" color formulation software worldwide. As the company announced ahead of Fakuma 2026, the application is designed for the plastics, paints and coatings industries, as well as other sectors with stringent requirements for color consistency. It combines the development of color formulations and the correction of production batches in a single software solution.
To calculate color formulations, "SpectraMagic CMS" uses color-matching algorithms that simultaneously take color and opacity into account. Batch correction is based on measurement data reflecting the actual behavior of the pigments used. Laboratory and production samples are also incorporated into the calculations to continuously improve color matching using existing process data.
According to the company, the software is intended to improve first-pass formulation accuracy and reduce the need for subsequent corrections. The aim is to minimize material waste and achieve more consistent color quality across different batches, production lines and sites. The announcement does not provide specific figures on material savings or reductions in the number of correction steps.
The software can be integrated with the "SpectraMagic NX2" quality control application and Konica Minolta's color measurement instruments. This enables color measurement, formulation development, batch correction and quality inspection to be combined into a seamless workflow. The company also offers technical support for implementation and use.
