Hexpol: New thermoplastic and TPE compounds with PCR content exceeding 80%
 At Fakuma 2026, Hexpol has expanded its portfolio of thermoplastic compounds and thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) containing post-consumer recyclates (PCR) for the automotive industry. Developed by the group's subsidiaries almaak, RheTech and Hexpol TPE, the materials include PC/ABS and ABS compounds, reinforced polypropylene (PP) and TPEs.Recycled content and applications Depending on the polymer, component requirements and raw material availability, the PCR content ranges from 10% to more than 80%. According to the company, potential applications include interior and exterior components such as centre consoles, trim panels, bumper brackets, insert mats, door sill trims and mud flaps. Other applications include grommets, electronic housings and components for noise and vibration damping. Hexpol states that its material development focuses particularly on material consistency, mechanical properties, colour stability, odour, volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and long-term durability. Adhesion testing and series production For multi-component injection moulding, Hexpol evaluated various PC/ABS and TPE combinations in accordance with ASTM D903. According to the company, the tested material combinations achieved peel strengths of more than 5 N/mm. Hexpol reports that several of its thermoplastic compounds are already being used by vehicle manufacturers. One example is the PC/ABS compound "Anjacom PC/ABS R050/75S", which is used in series production by Cupra, a brand of the Volkswagen Group. The new PCR compounds complement the existing range of materials containing post-industrial recyclates (PIR).
