Wacker is presenting its self-adhesive liquid silicone rubber “Elastosil LR 5471” at Fakuma 2026. The material is intended for hard-soft composite parts that come into contact with food, as well as for baby care and medical applications.According to the manufacturer, the silicone rubber adheres to metals and thermoplastics. It enables the production of composite parts by overmolding the rigid component without prior surface treatment. No thermal post-treatment of the molded parts is required. Wacker states that even non-post-cured vulcanizates comply with the relevant BfR guidelines for silicones and other requirements for food contact and baby care applications. Eliminating post-curing can reduce manufacturing effort. According to the manufacturer, non-post-cured vulcanizates achieve an elongation at break of 570 percent and a tear strength of 38 N/mm in accordance with ASTM D 624 B. “Elastosil LR 5471” is available in hardness grades of 40 and 50 Shore A and is particularly suitable for high-volume production of overmolded thermoplastic-elastomer parts and for co-molding processes. Wacker lists cookware, baking and kitchen utensils, medical applications, and the soft components of pacifiers and baby bottle nipples as potential uses. The material thus combines self-adhesion and high tear strength with the ability to dispense with thermal post-treatment.
