Out off the Menzolit (www.menzolit.com) laboratory comes a new invention. It is a method to incorporate heating wires into slabs of SMC (Graphic) to make integrally moulded heated trays, heating elements or similar items to heat electrically. Moulding metal elements into SMC is not a new idea, it is done quite frequently but moulding-in fragile heating wires without destroying them takes some trick. Researchers at Menzolit’s technical centre in Vineuil (France) did find this trick and make this technology available to interested moulders and OEMs. It allows a very economic and efficient way of producing heating elements and still providing great flexibility in design and styling to make the heated elements look attractive in a modern kitchen or living room environment.
