The advanced Series WLK single-shaft shredders manufactured by WEIMA Maschinenbau GmbH (www.weima.com) are equipped with rotors with screwed shaft journals (Photo) on the driven side . This screw connection permits the shaft journals to be hardened prior to installation. The resulting increased hardness allows a higher rate of torsional and flectional stressing on the shaft journals, consequently preventing wear symptoms and reducing damage to a great extent. These machines are used for grinding thermoplastics provided in the form of production residues from the automotive, electrical and electronics industries, etc., or start-up chunks as well as thick-walled or bulk components, films and foils. The rotors are manufactured from solid steel and can optionally be armoured with a highly wear-resistant Hardox plating for shredding abrasive materials such as glass fibre reinforced plastics or contaminated agricultural foils. The size of the machine is primarily dependent on the type and input dimensions of the material to be size-reduced and the required throughput. The diameter of the rotor is 368, 482, 600, 800, or 1,000 mm, depending on the frame size. The power rating is between 22 kW and 2 x 200 kW with rotor lengths of 600 mm to 3,000 mm.
