Reifenhäuser Kiefel Extrusion: New generation of high-performance blown film lines using one air ring only

Fusion of Reifenhäuser and KIEFEL is bearing the first fruits

In addition to energy efficiency, rapid product changes and the flexibility with which raw materials can be processed, improvements in the performance of film blowing processes and thus increases in the efficiency of complete blown film extrusion lines are more and more in the focus of numerous film producers. Reifenhäuser Kiefel Extrusion has developed a new, innovative cooling system to meet these demands.

After the successful establishment of the PERFECT COOL and KIRION® ECP cooling systems for the production of heavy-duty sacks and of REI2cool and PERFECT COOL Dual for a variety of film applications as well as of the vertically adjustable PERFECT COOL Vario air ring for low-viscous structures, the company´s engineers in Troisdorf and Worms have designed now a new cooling concept for blown film extrusion lines. It is based on a cooling ring that can be adjusted in height.

The so-called counter cooling process used for this novel air ring design means that the cooling air is not only conveyed upward to the air lips, as is the case in conventional air rings, but also downward to an additional air exit. As a result, it only requires one air ring to achieve a remarkable stabilisation of the film bubble and a significant increase in the output capacity. In addition, a number of film properties such as transparency, gloss and strength can be improved, depending on the film structure.
