Engel Expands European Manufacturing Network with New Site in Serbia

Injection molding machine manufacturer Engel is expanding its European manufacturing network with a new production site in Kikinda, Serbia. The facility will initially focus on the production of machined components. With the investment, Engel is relocating part of its mechanical manufacturing activities within Europe while further diversifying its supply base for customers in Europe and the Americas.

In the first phase of development, the site will provide around 13,000 square meters of production space. Engel plans to build up a workforce of approximately 150 employees within the first three years. The additional capacity in Kikinda is also intended to ease the workload at the company’s Austrian plants, enabling them to focus more strongly on complex, customer-specific system solutions.

According to Engel, the new site forms part of a broader realignment of its European manufacturing footprint. The company aims to make better use of the specific strengths of different locations across Europe while reducing its dependence on long transport routes and global supply chains. For customers operating in Europe and the Americas, the move is expected to strengthen the reliability of the supply of mechanical components in particular.

Engel cites the availability of skilled labor and Kikinda’s established industrial infrastructure as key factors behind the location decision. Employees from Austria will support the production ramp-up, train the local workforce and ensure that expertise is transferred in line with Engel’s company-wide quality standards.

Peter Jungwirth will take over as managing director of Engel Serbia in addition to his role as commercial manager of the company’s site in Kaplice, Czech Republic.

With the new facility, Engel is adding another production location to its European network and shifting part of its mechanical manufacturing activities to a region with a different cost and logistics structure. The move is designed to create a more balanced European production footprint while increasing supply-chain resilience.
