Vynova Belgium nv, based in Tessenderlo-Ham, Belgium, is gradually shutting down production at its Tessenderlo site. According to a statement issued by the trade union ABVV Scheikunde on 28 October 2026, the plants are scheduled to be shut down by 5 November. Operations in Beek, the Netherlands, will also be suspended. According to the union, management explained the decision during an extraordinary works council meeting, citing the strain that high energy prices have placed on the company's financial position. The plants will be maintained in a condition that allows production to be technically restarted at a later date. The union did not specify when production might resume. According to ABVV Scheikunde, the production shutdown will also affect Vynova Advanced Organics at the same site. As the planned chlorine supply cannot be maintained as intended, the company will have to adjust its production schedule and take measures to safeguard its facilities. According to the union, a conditional takeover offer for Vynova Advanced Organics remains on the table. The future supply of chlorine and further developments at Vynova Belgium are key factors in this context. According to Vynova's site information, the Tessenderlo facility produces ethylene dichloride (EDC) and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), among other products, as feedstocks for PVC production. The site is connected to Beek via a pipeline and to Mazingarbe, France, by rail. In Mazingarbe, VCM supplied from Tessenderlo is polymerised into suspension PVC on four production lines.
