Recycling group GreenDot has acquired a 50% stake in French company Valorie SAS. The transaction was completed on 5 November 2026. GreenDot and the Reclay Group now each hold a 50% stake in Valorie. The holding company owns the French organisations Léko and Léko Pro, which operate in the field of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Léko is responsible for household packaging and paper, while Léko Pro covers commercial packaging. GreenDot CEO Laurent Auguste will assume the role of Chairman of Valorie. According to Agilyx, GreenDot's majority shareholder, the initial purchase price amounts to €4 million. Two additional payments linked to Léko's revenue performance have also been agreed. The total purchase price is capped at €12 million. The acquisition will be financed from GreenDot Group's own resources. Agilyx will neither provide additional capital nor issue new shares to fund the transaction. Closer Integration of EPR Systems and Recycling Capacities Through the acquisition, GreenDot aims to strengthen the integration of its producer responsibility services with sorting, recycling and the supply of recycled plastics. The French EPR systems are to be incorporated into the group's European network, while access to suitable plastic waste streams for mechanical recycling is to be expanded. The company is also active in chemical recycling. One of the driving factors is the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Its requirements cover areas such as packaging recyclability, recycled content, reuse, and documentation and information obligations. GreenDot and Léko aim to help manufacturers and retailers not only fulfil their EPR obligations but also transition to recyclable packaging and secure suitable recycled materials. Recycling Rate in France Below EU Average According to figures cited in the announcement, France's recycling rate for plastic packaging stands at 27.5%, compared with an EU average of 42.5%. The partners see this as evidence of the need to expand collection, sorting and recycling infrastructure and ensure a reliable supply of recycled plastics in view of the PPWR requirements. According to company figures, Léko has more than 80,000 member companies and works with 17 municipal partners representing approximately 1.5 million residents. According to its 2024 activity report, the organisation supported the recycling of around 109,300 tonnes of packaging and paper during that year, providing €20 million in funding for these activities. Revenue amounted to approximately €31.6 million in 2024, while Agilyx reports revenue of €42 million for 2025. By 2029, Léko aims to achieve a 10% market share in the French EPR market for household packaging. More information: |
