The new Danish subsidiary manager, Lars Nygaard, was formally presented to 120 invited guests during an Open House event in Greve on 19 November 2009. At the same time, Arburg officially bid farewell to his predecessor, Eddie Oswald, who departs into a well-earned retirement. As a special highlight, Arburg A/S presented the energy-efficient high-performance Allrounder H (Hidrive) machine. The personnel change will become fully effective from 1 January 2010. From that date onwards, Lars Nygaard will take charge as the new subsidiary manager. On the occasion of the Open House, he was officially introduced by Arburg Managing Partner Renate Keinath and a high-ranking Arburg delegation, including Managing Director Sales Helmut Heinson, European Sales Manager Stephan Doehler and Stefan Folkesson from Swedish trading partner RAFO. Renate Keinath expressed her firm conviction that, "thanks to his many years of multifaceted experience in the industry, Mr Nygaard will manage his new tasks with élan." Since his appointment as successor at the head of the subsidiary, Lars Nygaard has undergone intensive preparation both at the Arburg headquarters as well as at the Danish location. Moving farewell celebration The Open House also saw Arburg bid farewell to his predecessor, Eddie Oswald, who departs into a well-earned retirement. In her speech, Renate Keinath thanked the long-serving subsidiary manager for his many years of successful collaboration on behalf of Arburg, the management team and, of course, especially on behalf of the owning families Hehl and Keinath. She then proceeded to look back over his time with Arburg: The joint success story of Eddie Oswald and Arburg´s presence on the Danish injection moulding market began in 1978, as his employer at that time, Hahn & Kolb A/S, took over the sales operation for Arburg in Denmark. He then became self-employed with the help of Arburg and founded E. Oswald Plasttechnik A/S. This company was then taken over by Arburg in 1997 and the Danish subsidiary Arburg A/S was established, the management of which has been in the hands of Eddie Oswald ever since. Renate Keinath went on to praise his dedication to the subsidiary, to his team, to his customers as well as to the entire Danish plastics industry. "Not only has he demonstrated his excellent sales skills, but has also been extremely active in the area of marketing," she said. Examples of his outstanding commitment include the "Tour de Arburg" trips that he established for Danish customers and which involved organised visits to the Arburg headquarters in Lossburg and the Fakuma in Friedrichshafen. He also organised four "Scandinavian Open" in-house trade fairs between 2002 and 2007, which achieved a total attendance of some 1,000 visitors. In his address, Stephan Doehler wished the retiring manager all the very best on behalf of all the colleagues at the international Arburg subsidiaries. He also paid tribute to his role as an example with regard to customers and employees. Eddie Oswald was also positively showered with acknowledgements from customer and trade association circles. Soren Ulstrup, third-generation owner of Ulstrup Plast A/S, thanked Eddie Oswald for his comprehensive support and for their close friendship spanning decades. In 1959, his father was the first Danish customer to establish close business ties with Arburg. Peter Skov, Managing Director of the Danish Plastics Federation, Plastindustrien, took the opportunity to commend Eddie Oswald as a "strong supporter of the Danish plastics industry," particularly in his function as a long-standing member of the supervisory board of the Danish Plastics Federation. Eddie Oswald subsequently thanked all the customers and highlighted the hard work of each of the subsidiary employees for their many years of joint co-operation. He expressed his sorrow at having to take leave of "one of the world´s best jobs". He wished Lars Nygaard in particular the best of luck and entrusted the Greve team to him. As his successor, Nygaard expressed his thanks for the perfect way in which his predecessor had prepared the handover, praising the usefulness of the "honest and expert introduction". Presentation of the hybrid Hidrive machine series During the further course of the event, the guests were introduced to a selection from the current product range in the demonstration room. The high-point of the evening was the presentation of the Allrounder Hidrive machine series by Lars Nygaard and Arburg sales consultant Claus Petersen. The qualities of this high-performance, energy-efficient hybrid machine were impressively demonstrated by an Allrounder 470 H with a clamping force of 1,000 kN and a size 400 injection unit. Equipped with a 24-cavity mould, the machine produced overcaps with a part weight of 0.58 grams for a medical application in a cycle time of around seven seconds. From the field of automation, a cost-effective automation solution comprising an Allrounder 420 C Golden Edition and a Multilift V Select robotic system was on show. An interesting feature here is the simple and user-friendly teach-in programming of the robotic system. The third exhibit was a hydraulic Allrounder 270 S on which high-precision micro components weighing only 0.7 grams were produced for use in hearing aids. At the end, all 120 guests agreed that the Open House had been an extremely successful event for celebrating Eddie Oswald´s retirement, officially introducing Lars Nygaard and pointing the way to the future of injection moulding with innovative machines and applications.
