Oni-Wärmetrafo Expands Business in China

Oni-Wärmetrafo GmbH is continuing to expand its presence in the Chinese market. Through its subsidiary Oni Energy Saving Technology (Kunshan) Co., Ltd., founded in 2017, the company is increasingly carrying out projects for local customers in China and Southeast Asia. According to Oni, its Kunshan operation has achieved double-digit growth for several consecutive years.

One recent project involves a new central energy and utility supply system for a plastics processor in China. The installation supplies chilled and cooling water to more than 150 injection molding machines as well as other production equipment. Total installed cooling capacity amounts to 12,000 kW, comprising 8,000 kW from chillers and 4,000 kW from cooling towers.

Heat recovery combined with a large-scale heat pump provides an additional 2,500 kW of heating capacity for the facility. More than 30 variable-speed circulation pumps equipped with IE4 motors distribute the utilities in line with actual demand.

The installation also incorporates Oni’s “Oni-AquaClean” water treatment system. According to the company, its fine-filtration technology removes 99% of particles larger than 0.1 µm from the cooling water. The system is controlled via a Siemens S7 PLC.

Engineering, specialist components and software development remain based in Germany, while standard components are increasingly being sourced locally in China. This approach allows Oni to combine centralized engineering expertise at its German headquarters with local manufacturing and procurement capabilities for the Asian market.
