BASF (www.basf.com) has appointed a new head of its Berlin Liaison Office. Effective September 1, 2008, Wolfgang Niedermark (43, Photo) will succeed Dr. Annette Zimmermann in coordinating the dialogue between politics and the company in Berlin. Niedermark will report to Elisabeth Schick, head of Corporate & Governmental Relations at BASF. Niedermark, who was born in Gelsenkirchen, studied economic geography in Münster. Since then, his career has been closely linked with Asia. After positions as a specialist for India and later Southeast Asia at the German Asia-Pacific Business Association (Ostasiatischer Verein), he was managing director of this Hamburg-based association for five years. From 1998 to 2003, Niedermark was managing director of the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA). From 2003 until the beginning of 2005, he was responsible for developing business with China at the Heinrich Bauer publishing house in Hamburg, before assuming responsibility for the German Chamber of Foreign Trade in Seoul, Korea. Niedermark joined BASF in Ludwigshafen as Director Asia-Pacific Affairs, following the appointment of BASF’s chairman, Dr. Jürgen Hambrecht, as chairman of APA in July 2006. Niedermark regards the primary goal of his new job as promoting BASF’s Berlin Liaison Office in its function as an information hub in the dialogue between business and politics.
