NGR: PET recycling technology for Turkey’s Sanko

Turkey’s Sanko Holding is investing in the Liquid-State Polycondensation (LSP) technology developed by Austrian recycling machinery manufacturer Next Generation Recyclingmaschinen GmbH (NGR). With this technology, the industrial group aims to expand the use of recycled PET materials in high-quality applications and further develop its activities in the field of the circular economy.

Sanko, headquartered in Gaziantep, was founded in 1904 and is today one of Turkey’s major industrial groups. According to company information, the group employs more than 14,000 people and is active in various sectors. The textile division plays a central role, with Sanko pointing to more than 120 years of experience in this field. The company produces yarns, fabrics and finished products, among other items, and supplies customers in more than 100 countries.

Sustainability and social responsibility are cited by Sanko as strategic priorities. This also includes RE&UP Technologies, a company within the Sanko environment that focuses on recycling technologies for a circular textile economy. The investment in NGR technology is intended to complement this approach and support the development of closed material loops.

The Liquid-State Polycondensation technology developed by NGR combines a continuous melt filtration process with post-condensation in the liquid state. The process is designed to remove impurities from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and improve the material properties. This should make recycled raw materials suitable for more demanding applications.

According to NGR, the technology offers improved physical cleaning performance compared with conventional recycling systems while maintaining high energy efficiency. Sanko plans to use the process to reduce the environmental footprint of its own activities and decrease its dependence on virgin raw materials.

Fatih Konukoglu, Vice President of Sanko Holding, placed the investment in the context of the company’s commitment to the environment, sustainability and social responsibility. The aim is to use new technologies from NGR to reduce environmental impact and improve the sustainability of the company’s own processes.

For RE&UP in particular, the use of NGR technology is expected to help establish closed material loops and reduce the need for virgin materials. The investment therefore underscores the growing importance of resource-efficient processes in textile and plastics processing.
