Dr. Boy: Compact Injection Molding and Automation Solutions

Dr. Boy GmbH & Co. KG will present a cross-section of its machine portfolio at Fakuma 2026. A total of seven exhibits will be on display at the company’s own booth in Hall A7 as well as at partner booths. For the first time, both the electromechanical and servohydraulic injection molding machines will be presented in the new uniform design. Four of the applications are automated.

The focus will be on the new LR 5 Compact linear handling system on a Boy 35 Electric. The handling system and conveyor belt are fully integrated beneath the machine’s safety enclosure, eliminating the need for an additional external safety guarding system. According to the manufacturer, this reduces the required floor space from around 5.2 m² for a solution with external guarding to 3.1 m². The required ceiling height is 2.6 m.

The handling system is operated via the machine’s “Procan Alpha 6” control. Machine and automation functions, including data set and error management, are combined in a single control system. Separate handling controllers and the corresponding Euromap interfaces are therefore no longer required. The Boy 35 Electric will produce oil pourers. The new option for electromechanical unscrewing will also be presented.

With the so-called “Electric Barista,” Boy will demonstrate an automated application on a Boy 50 Electric. The machine produces cups made of NAS 30 Eco, which are subsequently used by a collaborative robot to serve espresso.

The Boy 100 Electric processes liquid silicone rubber (LSR) into collapsible funnels. An integrated LR 5 linear handling system removes the parts and places them on a conveyor belt. The all-electric series is designed for precise and dynamic motion sequences as well as the simultaneous execution of multiple machine movements.

Micro Injection Molding with Two Boy XS E Machines
Another focal point is medical micro injection molding. Two Boy XS E machines, each with a clamping force of 100 kN, produce very small medical components. One machine processes LSR, while the other uses a medical-grade PLA of the type “Resomer LR 704 S.”

Both machines are equipped with an 8 mm screw and operate according to the first-in, first-out principle. The applications are intended in particular to demonstrate the processing of very small shot weights and reproducible metering in micro injection molding.

Vertical Overmolding Application with Compact Automation
A Boy 35 E VV will produce star grips for tools in HEX 3, 4 and 5 internal hexagon sizes. The inserts are fed by a flexible singulation system from Variobotic, which is installed directly on the machine frame of the vertical machine. This keeps the additional floor-space requirement for the automation to a minimum.

The trade fair line-up is completed by a Boy 20 E Pro. It will produce small plastic beer crates that serve as storage boxes for batteries. The entry-level model operates with the “Procan Alpha 4” control and uses the servo-motor drive technology of the E series.

With the applications on display, Boy covers areas ranging from micro injection molding and LSR processing to vertical overmolding and all-electric machines with integrated automation. A key technical focus of the trade fair presentation is the reduction of floor-space requirements and the closer integration of injection molding machines and handling technology.
