As a consequence of the general market and business development, costs and margins for PVC specialities have substantially deteriorated since the beginning of the year. In this period, the ethylene price hiked by almost 70% and the price of the chlorine by-product caustic soda plummeted by more than 60%. So far, this two-sided margin squeeze could only partly be compensated by PVC price increases, leading to unacceptable returns. For this reason, Vinnolit (www.vinnolit.com) will increase prices for PVC specialities by EUR 100,-/t, effective October 1st, 2009. PVC specialities are, among others, paste and extender resins, E-PVC and copolymers. Vinnolit is the globally leading producer of PVC specialities. |
