Wittmann Expands Primus Range with Higher-Payload Linear Robot

Wittmann is expanding its Primus series with the new Primus 118 linear robot. Designed for pick-and-place applications and straightforward automation tasks, the model can handle payloads of up to 8 kg, extending the range to applications involving heavier parts and gripper systems.

The higher payload capacity is made possible by a revised mechanical design. Wittmann has reinforced both the demolding and vertical axes and adapted the drive systems to meet the increased performance requirements.

For gripper media supply, the Primus 118 offers up to ten valve slots, allowing different combinations of gripper and vacuum circuits to be configured. Up to eight vacuum circuits can be implemented in total.

SmartRemoval is included as a standard feature. The function synchronizes the robot’s removal movement with the opening sequence of the injection molding machine, helping to shorten part-removal times and reduce the overall cycle time.

The Primus 118 can be installed on injection molding machines from different manufacturers and across a range of machine sizes, with clamping forces of up to 250 tonnes. The drilling pattern in the main beam is identical to that used on previous Primus models, enabling the robot to be integrated into existing installations without major modifications to the mechanical interface.

The robot is operated via Wittmann’s R9 control system with R9 teach box. The control platform also allows users to expand the system at a later stage and integrate additional axes where required.

For applications requiring more sophisticated part orientation, optional rotary and swivel axes are available. A servo-electric B axis can be used to implement different placement positions and patterns, while a combined A+C servo axis enables both rotary and swiveling movements. This makes it suitable for positioning more complex components in the required orientation.

Dedicated Primus Presentation Area
At Fakuma 2026, Wittmann will present several products from its Primus portfolio in a dedicated exhibition area. The focus will be on applications across the material flow chain, from raw-material drying and conveying to temperature control, automation and inline recycling.

The exhibits will include the Drymax primus material dryer, the Tempro primus temperature controller and the S-Max primus toothed-roll granulator. The display will also feature a Card primus small-batch dryer, a Feedmax primus central material loader, a Primus robot and the all-electric EcoPrimus injection molding machine.

The individual components can be used as standalone solutions or combined to create an integrated production cell.
