Maurer Kunststofftechnik GmbH, based in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany, is introducing two lightweight compounds based on polyamide 6.10 at Fakuma 2026. According to the company, the new grades in the “Makamid” product family achieve densities of 0.83 and 0.97 g/cm³, respectively, and differ in their mechanical properties. The “Makamid BYV 290 RB 4 NS” grade is designed for applications where low component weight is the primary requirement. At a density of 0.83 g/cm³, it achieves a tensile modulus of 3,200 MPa and a yield stress of 48 MPa in the dry state. Its Charpy impact strength at 23 °C is 19 kJ/m². The black compound “Makamid BYV 290 RCB 23 black” features hybrid reinforcement. At a density of 0.97 g/cm³, it exhibits a tensile modulus of 6,500 MPa and a yield stress of 100 MPa in the dry state. The manufacturer specifies a Charpy impact strength of 36 kJ/m² at 23 °C. The grade is therefore intended for components requiring higher stiffness and strength alongside low weight. Densities were determined in accordance with ISO 1183, while tensile modulus and yield stress were measured in accordance with ISO 527. Both compounds have a melting point of 220 °C, determined by DSC. In internal testing in accordance with UL 94 at a wall thickness of 0.8 mm, both achieved an HB classification. The company describes all property values as typical guide values; suitability must be assessed for the specific component. With these two grades, Maurer Kunststofftechnik is expanding its polyamide portfolio for weight-optimized technical components. The company identifies automotive manufacturing, unmanned aircraft systems, the electrical and electronics industry, and machinery and equipment manufacturing as potential application areas. Compared with denser materials, the low density allows component weight to be reduced while maintaining the same geometry.
