Sirmax: Expansion of compounding capacities in India

The Italian plastics processor Sirmax is building another production site in India.

In a press release at the beginning of the month, the company announced the start of construction work on a new plant near Hosur in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. According to the press release, the site near Bangalore will have the capacity to produce around 20,000 tonnes of plastic compounds per year. The plant is scheduled for completion in 2026. No information was provided on the level of investment associated with the project.

Sirmax is also planning to expand the existing plant in Palwal near New Delhi, which is operated as part of the Autotech-Sirmax joint venture with the Indian company Autotech Polymers. The installation of four new extruders with additional capacity for a total of around 15,000 tonnes of compounds per year is planned at this site. New automated warehouses are also to be built. Sirmax anticipates a total investment volume of ten million euros.

The Autotech-Sirmax JV has another production site in Valsad in the western Indian state of Gujarat, whose capacities were also recently to be expanded.

Autotech-Sirmax primarily produces polypropylene compounds and other engineering thermoplastics based on polyamide, polycarbonate, PBT and ABS, which are used in the automotive industry, in electrical and household appliance construction and in other sectors. With the current new construction and expansion projects in India, the Sirmex Group is responding to the sharp rise in demand for high-quality engineering thermoplastics and compounds in India and other markets in Asia.

Sirmex has its headquarters in Citadella near Padua and, in addition to the two plants in India, has six production sites in Italy, two plants each in Poland and the USA and a production site in Brazil, as well as sales offices in Germany, France and Spain. In the year 2022 financial year, the Group generated sales of around EUR 500 million with a total of around 850 employees.
