The manufacturer of injection molding machines, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery GmbH (Schwaig, Germany, www.sumitomo-shi-demag.eu) and the manufacturer of robots, Sepro Robotique of La Roche-sur-Yon (France, www.sepro-robotique.com) have concluded a contract for cooperation in June, 2009. This agreement makes arrangements for Sumitomo (SHI) Demag to expand its line of three-axis robots by a robot series supplied by Sepro. Owing to this integrated standardized system, the manufacturer of injection molding machines will be in a position to meet the global demand for automated injection molding systems in an even more flexible manner. The SDR series with its six models has been attuned to the Systec and IntElect series of injection molding machines with a clamping force between 350 kN and 20,000 kN. It comes with all the mechanical, electrical and pneumatic interfaces required for integration in the machines made by Sumitomo (SHI) Demag. The mechanical components and actuators of the SDR 11 through SDR 66 series are based on the Sepro robot series. The SDR series robots are controlled by means of Visual 2, a high-efficiency control system already used in other robots made by Sepro. This control system communicates with the Demag machine via the Euromap-67 interface, and the intention is to fully integrate it in Demag´s NC5 control system in future. This move will provide even more ease of operation, and raise the efficiency of the overall system. Moreover, the SDR robots will provide full flexibility even with complex automation problems, and will facilitate the implementation of even more custom-made designs. The new handling units of the SDR model will top off the product range of three-axis robots made by Sumitomo (SHI) Demag as we have known it hitherto. The systems on offer will still include the DR7 and DR8 series developed in a common effort with the Austrian robot manufacturer, Wittmann. Thus, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag offers its customers and system partners an even wider variety of products of factory-set automated injection molding machines. |
