Dow: Expansion of Silicone Capacity

U.S. chemical company Dow is investing in the expansion of its silicone production and processing capacities.

According to a company press release, several projects at Dow sites in the United States, China, and Japan are scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, with a total investment of approximately USD 100 million. The investments are focused on specialty silicone capacity for applications in the mobility, electronics, and medical technology sectors.

The plans include expanding the production of liquid silicone rubber (LSR) for high-performance applications at the company's facilities in Carrollton, Kentucky, and Zhangjiagang in China's Jiangsu Province. In addition, capacity expansions for engineered silicone materials in Fukui, Japan, and Songjiang near Shanghai are expected to be completed by the end of this year, followed by projects in Zhangjiagang and Auburn, Michigan, next year. Furthermore, Dow has already expanded its Cooling Science Labs in recent months at its Midland, Michigan, site and in Shanghai. These facilities support customers in the development and scaling of innovative thermal management solutions.
