TechnoCompound Expands LGF Capacity in Bad Sobernheim

TechnoCompound GmbH is expanding its production capacity for long glass fiber-reinforced thermoplastics (LGF) at its Bad Sobernheim site by 4,800 tonnes per year. The new production line is scheduled to come on stream by the second quarter of 2027 at the latest.

According to the company, the expansion will be implemented without major changes to the existing production process or fundamental modifications to the plant’s overall technical concept.

Expansion Driven by Rising Demand
TechnoCompound said the additional line is being installed in response to growing demand for high-performance LGF compounds, particularly for applications requiring enhanced mechanical properties. The automotive industry and its supplier base remain among the company’s key target markets.

At the same time, TechnoCompound is expanding its portfolio of compounds containing recycled materials. The company already offers LGF grades with post-consumer recycled (PCR) content ranging from 25% to 60%.

According to TechnoCompound, these materials are designed with future requirements under the EU End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation in mind and are intended primarily for structural components used in vehicle interiors.

Energy-Efficient Production Line
The new production line is expected to operate with optimized energy efficiency and to meet current environmental and technological standards. The company has not disclosed technical details on the line configuration, planned throughput, or investment volume.

TechnoCompound currently has an annual production capacity of around 60,000 tonnes and employs 105 people. The company compounds, upgrades, and modifies polymers for customer-specific applications. Its product portfolio ranges from commodity plastics and engineering compounds to thermoplastic elastomers.

TechnoCompound is part of the Polymer Group, which is headquartered in Bad Sobernheim. The group has its origins in Polymer-Chemie GmbH, founded in 1973, and today includes the compounding companies Polymer-Chemie, Polymer-Chemie Rus, Sun Alloys Europe, TechnoCompound, PolyMIM, and SoBiCo. The group employs more than 500 people in total.

In addition to the automotive sector, TechnoCompound serves applications in logistics, packaging, and construction. Its services also include application engineering support and the development of tailor-made compounds.
