Arburg UK: Steve Thomson Appointed Managing Director

Effective 1 December 2025, Steve Thomson has taken over as Managing Director of Arburg Ltd. in Warwick. He succeeds Colin Tirel, who has left the company upon reaching retirement age. Thomson had been serving as Sales Director at the British Arburg subsidiary since September 2024.

Thomson brings more than three decades of industrial experience, including 27 years in plastics injection molding and tooling technology. He began his professional career in 1991 with an apprenticeship as a plastics technician at a household appliance manufacturer. After attending Burton Technical College, he went on to study polymer science at Coventry University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Throughout his career, Thomson has worked across various industries, including automotive, medical technology, and peripheral equipment. His professional assignments have also taken him to Germany, including Baden-Baden and Munich. With his international experience and in-depth industry expertise, he now assumes responsibility for the UK and Irish markets.

Arburg Ltd. employs 26 people at its Warwick site. The British and Irish markets are currently considered challenging environments. According to the new Managing Director, customer relationships remain stable, with processing companies placing particular emphasis on quality, durability, and technical support.

Looking ahead to further development in the UK and Ireland, Thomson expects key growth impulses from the medical technology and packaging sectors. He also anticipates increasing demand for standard electric injection molding machines. In addition, he sees growth potential in the turnkey sector.
