Feddem GmbH & Co. KG, the machinery engineering company of the Feddersen Group, will showcase its “FED 18 MTS” laboratory extruder at Fakuma 2026. Designed for formulation and product development, the system enables trials with small material quantities under reproducible processing conditions.

Modular design enables flexible process lengths
One of the key features of the “FED 18 MTS” is its modular process section. The standard configuration of 32 L/D can be extended to up to 52 L/D without requiring modifications to the machine frame, cooling system or control architecture, according to the company.

Plug-in supply connections further simplify reconfiguration, allowing the extruder to be adapted to different development tasks and process setups. The concept is particularly suited to laboratory and R&D environments in which multiple formulations and processing variants need to be evaluated with a high degree of flexibility and limited equipment expenditure.

Side feeding and vacuum degassing options
For more complex processing tasks, the laboratory extruder can be equipped with additional units, including the “FSB” side feeder and the “FSV” side vacuum degassing system. These options make it possible to replicate process steps that are also used on larger-scale compounding lines.

According to Feddem, this configuration is intended to facilitate the transfer of formulations and process parameters developed on a laboratory scale to larger production systems. It also allows additional processing steps to be incorporated at an early stage of formulation development rather than focusing on extrusion alone.
