Plastic processors with single-, double- (Fig.) and quadruple-shaft size reduction machines from MERCODOR GmbH Sondermaschinenbau KG (www.mercodor.de) can convert bulky and voluminous production residues and reject articles into regrind. This preliminary broken material can be readily passed onward for further processing while the reduction in volume achieved results in considerable savings in logistics and handling costs. In addition to use in injection moulding- and extrusion shops the machines are also used for fragmentising car-seat foam, interior door trim panels, natural rubbers, cured silicone cartridges, sheeting, coat hangers and similar bulky materials. The module-like structure of the disintegrators means that they can not only be used under difficult local conditions but also enables their customized incorporation into existing multi-stage reprocessing lines; they can also be combined with all popular delivery and discharge equipments. The product range includes not only stainless-steel designs but also mobile versions as well as customer- and application-specific special solutions. The material is fed into the disintegrators via a hopper on rotating hexagonal shafts, upon which individual cutter disks are, mounted which pull in and crush the material. Hydraulic holding pressure units are available as an option. The cutting chamber sizes range between 115 mm x 230 mm to 1100 mm x 750 mm (length x width) although longer chambers can be ordered if required. Depending on the machine type and use, machine speeds are between 8 and 70 rpm. Crushed material is discharged either by gravity from the bottom part of the machine or by means of a pneumatic suction unit. Sieves with different hole sizes can be used to set a particular grain size range. The machines are constructed to allow easy maintenance work and fast cutter blade changing or replacement. The number, width and shape of the cutter disks used and the blade quality is dependent on the job in hand. The shafts are driven by an electric motor via a gear unit, with the drive power ranging between 2.2 kW and 45 kW. Hydraulic drive is optional. As a protection against problematic materials the machines are equipped with a reversing controller which switches off the machine in the event of an overload. The PLC can be programmed to the customer's particular requirements. As an optional feature a safety coupling is available. Since its founding in 1973 MERCODOR GmbH Sondermaschinenbau KG has sold around 2100 machines throughout the world. The reference list includes prestigious companies in plastics, the automotive industry, system suppliers and industrial plant constructors. This family company employs about 10 people.
