The EU - wide national networks of PlasticsEurope (www.plasticseurope.org) and the European Plastics Converters Association (EuPC, www.eupc.org) met together for the first time on Tuesday 28th March in London at the British Plastics Federation´s offices. Involving some forty representatives , the day-long meeting was jointly chaired by Nancy Russotto and Alexandre Dangis, the heads of PlasticsEurope and EuPC respectively. Nancy Russotto said ´´The achievement of the meeting was to bring together a wider range of converter organisations than in the past. This enabled us to establish a priority list of subjects on which the two organisations and their networks of National Plastics Associations can drive forward and present single messages to the public authorities throughout Europe. The issues prioritised by the meeting were: • The energy-saving benefits of plastics in use • The role of the different waste management options such as recycling and energy from waste • The significance of litter for the industry´s image • Legislation affecting chemicals and plastics such as REACH´´ ´´Although converters occupy a different position in the supply chain and are subject to a different range of pressures to the raw material producers, we have one massive area in common´´, said Alexandre Dangis for EuPC.´´Both networks of National Plastics Associations want society to benefit even further from plastics products.Improving society´s understanding of plastics is key to this.By working more closely together we can also spread best practice case studies more widely throughout the European industry ´´ BPF´s Peter Davis commented ´´The BPF has a record of achieving unity in the supply chain and we will be working further to strengthen the dialogue between the national networks for raw materials and conversion elsewhere in Europe´´. |
