The further development of plant manufacturer EREMA´s (www.erema.at) patented VACUREMA process for the recycling of washed post-consumer bottle flake has made it possible: The company has stated that with the new "VACUREMA Multi-KT" process (Photo) the IV of PET bottle flake can be increased from starting values of around 0.76 to melt-filtrated pellets with IV on a level with virgin material at 0.82 and above – without any chemical assistance and conventional SSP technology. Thanks to specific measures it has also been possible to improve the cleaning effect of the process again considerably at the same time. It has had FDA approval since the year 2000 and has proven itself since in all 5 continents of the world in more than 60 applications, but now, for the first time, fulfils all the limit values of all the purity requirements of worldwide beverage producers known to the manufacturer Erema. The likewise newly developed and recently launched EREMA inline crystallisation of cylindrical strand pellets using solely the existing process energy (no external energy supply necessary) makes the VACUREMA product range now even more attractive in terms of user benefits. More energy-efficient: dry first, then extrude Unlike other PET recycling processes that use extrusion, the VACUREMA process features intensive drying and IV increase of (thin-walled) bottle flake in high vacuum before the extrusion process. Perfectly pre-dried, crystalline PET is then added which means there is hardly any or no hydrolytic degradation in the extruder. This saves up to 30% more energy than other processes which extrude the PET first, reducing the IV at the same time and then, starting with a relatively low IV level, have to increase it again. VACUREMA: flexible and expandable The VACUREMA technology is a modular system which makes it possible to start out with a compact, comparatively inexpensive "basic technology". The starter solution can be extended at any time according to requirements and demand with several expansion phases up to a high-end PET bottle-to-bottle recycling plant. |
