Zerma: Granulator for the Processing of Edge‐Trim and Thermoforming Waste using New Infeed Controls

The Zerma range includes the GSC series of sound-proofed granulators, which are popular machines for in-house recycling applications. Zerma upgraded the machines with a new control system for the roller-infeed, especially for processing edge-trim and skeletal waste from thermoforming. The noise-insulated granulators are suitable for inline recycling and are usually installed directly at the source of the materials to be recycled.

Automatic controls including torque-sensing shaft
The materials to be processed are introduced via a special hopper, on which two feed-rollers (controlled by sensors) are attached. The speed and the tension of the material are regulated by the torque control, automatically synchronising with the speed of the extrusion or thermoforming line. The maximum feeding speed can also be adjusted for various film thicknesses.

The infeed rollers are driven by a geared motor, ensuring an even feed with even tension. This prevents sagging or, in the worst case, tearing of the edge strips and shifting of the whole sheet of film. The control automatically and continuously controls the maximum line speed.

The unit impresses with its compact construction because the traditional dancer rollers are unnecessary in this system.
The proven Zerma grinding system creates a high-quality granule that can be reintroduced into the production process.

The GSC series granulators are available in working widths from 300 mm to 1,400 mm.
