The plastics recycler KVZ Hintermayr is investing around 1.5 million euros in expanding its material recycling operations at its Wertingen site in the district of Dillingen an der Donau (Bavaria). The measures aim to significantly increase the company’s processing capacity and improve energy efficiency.

The investment package for 2024/2025 includes conveying technology, an extruder with a melt filter, several industrial trucks, a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 530 kilowatt-peak (kWp), and a single-shaft shredder of the type VIZ 1700 from machine manufacturer Vecoplan. The combination of shredding and milling technology is designed to enable more efficient size reduction and processing of various types of plastics.

KVZ Hintermayr processes a wide range of plastic residues—including technical components, film waste, compressed big bags, and Styrofoam—into ground materials and regranulates. The company’s total annual capacity at its two sites in Gersthofen and Wertingen currently amounts to around 6,000 tonnes. Its products are supplied to European film manufacturers, injection molders, and compounders.

For 2028, the company plans to construct a new production hall with a floor area of 2,000 square meters to support further growth.

The company traces its origins back to Karl Hintermayr, who initially operated a cattle breeding business in Gersthofen in the 1980s. In 2000, the business was transformed into a plastics recycling company. Today, it is run by the second generation—brothers Franz-Xaver, Karl-Friedrich, and Veit-Kilian Hintermayr.

KVZ Hintermayr employs 12 to 18 people and has an operational area of 40,000 square meters, including 7,000 square meters of hall space. Its machinery includes 11 shredders, 8 cutting mills, 2 extruders, 2 air classifiers, 1 metal separation table, and 1 screening unit. The company emphasizes its flat organizational structure and flexible machinery setup, which allow it to respond quickly to changing customer requirements.
