Intraplas: Packaging Specialist Opens First US Production Facility

The Portuguese packaging specialist Intraplas has announced the commissioning of its first location in the USA. With the new production facility in the US state of Ohio and an initial investment of around 40 million euros, the company is expanding its international presence and aims to strengthen customer proximity in the North American market.

The plant in Van Wert is fully operational. Installation, technical ramp-up, and all certifications required for the US food packaging market – including FDA and Ohio Department of Agriculture (IMS) approvals – have been completed. With this site, Intraplas aims to strengthen its position as a provider of packaging solutions for applications in dairy products, plant-based foods, and desserts.

The company emphasizes the strategic importance of the project for the global development of the group. The new location is intended to consolidate its market presence in the USA and support the implementation of long-term corporate goals. Intraplas also highlights the close cooperation with institutions that accompanied the investment process, including the US Embassy in Portugal, the Portuguese Embassy in the USA, JobsOhio, the Regional Growth Partnership, and the Van Wert Area Economic Development Corporation.

The official inauguration of the production facility is planned for spring 2026. Employees, customers, business partners, and representatives of Portuguese and US institutions are expected to attend the event.

Intraplas was founded in 1968 and is headquartered in Northern Portugal. The company is dedicated to the manufacturing and distribution of packaging solutions and possesses expertise in extrusion, thermoforming, and printing.
