Wacker: Technology Center for Specialty Silanes Opens in China

Wacker and its Chinese joint venture partner Sico Performance Material have commissioned a new application and development center for organofunctional silanes in Jining. The goal is to strengthen the specialty business of both companies and to achieve closer integration of research, application technology, and production.

The approximately 2,300 square meter Wacker Sico Application Development Center (ADC) includes several laboratories where silane-based additives, adhesion promoters, and stabilizers for applications in the plastics, coatings, and adhesives industries will be developed in the future. Due to the proximity to Sico's production and scale-up capacities, new formulations can be transferred more quickly into industrial processes and brought to market readiness. The investment for the center amounts to a mid-six-figure euro sum.

With this facility, Wacker is responding to the growing demand for organofunctional silanes in China. These materials improve mechanical and chemical product properties and are therefore in demand in numerous high-tech areas, including electromobility, electronics, energy and communication technology, and coating systems.

Representatives of both companies emphasized the strategic importance of the new center for the joint silane business at the opening. The ADC is intended to serve as a platform to provide customers in China with more comprehensive support in the development of new products in the future and to bundle the expertise of both partners along the entire value chain.
