TEN: Acquisition of Ecovyst catalyst business completed

The French industrial engineering company Technip Energies (TEN) has finalized the acquisition of the Advanced Materials and Catalysts business from the US-based company Ecovyst.

TEN provided information about this in a press release at the beginning of the year. The French company had already agreed to the purchase of Ecovyst's catalyst business in September of last year. According to a statement released at that time, the financial volume of the deal amounted to 556 million USD. In a current announcement, Ecovyst estimates the net proceeds from the sale of the division at approximately 530 million USD.

With the Ecovyst division Advanced Materials and Catalysts, TEN takes over the company Advanced Silicas as well as a 50 percent stake in Zeolyst International, a joint venture held in equal parts with Shell Catalysts and Technologies. Advanced Silicas primarily produces specialty materials and catalysts based on chromium and silica for polyolefin production. Zeolyst International is a leading manufacturer of zeolite-based materials and catalysts used in hydrocracking processes, the production of sustainable fuels, and plastics recycling. The entire division includes three production sites in the USA and Europe with a total of around 330 employees and recently achieved annual sales of approximately 223 million USD.

For TEN, the acquisition primarily represents an expansion of capacities, portfolio, and market presence within the value chain for catalysts and process technologies. At the same time, it continues the implementation of the growth strategy for the group's Technology, Products and Services (TPS) business unit.

The CEO of TEN, Arnaud Pieton, explained that the closing of this transaction is an important milestone in the development of Technip Energies. With Advanced Materials and Catalysts, the company is combining a differentiated platform for catalysts and high-performance materials with its process technologies and engineering expertise. In this way, they are creating an integrated offering that helps customers improve the efficiency, reliability, and emissions performance of their plants.

Technip Energies was established five years ago as a spin-off of several business units from the French plant engineering group TechnipFMC. The company is active in 34 countries worldwide and employs more than 17,000 people. In the 2024 financial year, TEN, which is listed on Euronext Paris, generated total sales of approximately 6.9 billion EUR.
