Südpack: PPC Flex Acquires Plant in Wisconsin

U.S. packaging manufacturer PPC Flex has acquired the production facility of the German industry company Südpack in the U.S. state of Wisconsin.

PPC Flex announced the transaction in a press release in mid-January. The plant, located in Oak Creek south of Milwaukee, is equipped with facilities for printing and converting flexible plastic packaging. No financial details of the transaction were disclosed.

According to the announcement, the acquisition strengthens PPC Flex’s manufacturing capacities, in particular through additional expertise in flexographic printing and cold-seal packaging. At the same time, the company will be able to expand its product portfolio with innovative flexible packaging solutions for meat and cheese products. The Oak Creek facility complements the company’s existing structures, especially due to its strategically favorable location close to key customers in this market segment.

Südpack had acquired the Oak Creek plant at the end of 2017 through the takeover of the U.S. company Seville Flexpack. With the sale of the site, Südpack is now restructuring its U.S. business, according to media reports. Going forward, the German company plans to focus on close cooperation with PPC Flex. Reports indicate that, within a strategic partnership, Südpack’s technological expertise will be combined with PPC Flex’s production infrastructure and proximity to customers in order to generate sustainable long-term growth in the U.S. market.

In the current PPC announcement, Südpack CEO Thorsten Seehars stated: “We are very pleased to have found a strong and forward-looking buyer for our U.S. business in PPC Flex. The company’s strategic vision, innovative strength, and commitment to long-term growth give us confidence that our facilities and our team are in the best possible hands. We are also delighted that PPC Flex, with its strong presence in the converting sector, will become a strategic partner of Südpack in the United States.”

PPC Flex manufactures a broad range of films, bags, and other flexible packaging products, including cleanroom packaging for applications in the medical and food sectors. Headquartered in Buffalo Grove near Chicago, the company operates a total of twelve sites in the U.S. states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas, Georgia, Utah, and Ohio, as well as in Colombia and Israel. PPC Flex has been controlled by the Chicago-based private equity investor GTCR since 2021.
