Kraiburg TPE: TPE material for automotive sealing systems with high recycled content

Kraiburg TPE has developed a TPE solution for automotive sealing systems based on its “Thermolast K” product line, featuring a recycled content of around 56 percent. The material contains post-industrial and post-consumer recyclates and is designed for applications that must meet high requirements in terms of quality, processing, and functionality.

The development was carried out in collaboration with automotive supplier SaarGummi, with whom Kraiburg TPE has worked for many years. The aim of the project was to develop a material variant with a higher recyclate content that can be integrated into existing applications without fundamentally altering established processing and product properties.

According to the company, the project was launched in 2023. The focus was on maintaining existing material standards for mechanical strength, resistance to environmental influences, and industrial processability, while at the same time increasing the share of recycled raw materials. The background to this is rising demands for more sustainable materials along the automotive value chain.

In an early project phase, the existing material solution and the new recycled variant were tested under comparable conditions. According to the companies involved, the new TPE solution met the relevant requirements and could be reliably integrated into existing production processes.

The newly presented material combines the increased recycled content with the functional properties required for sealing systems. In addition to the material composition, the project partners also point to a reduction in the product carbon footprint compared to the previous variant. Kraiburg TPE thus positions the development as a more resource-efficient alternative for demanding automotive applications.
