Biesterfeld: Additive portfolio expanded with halogen-free flame retardants from Alpha Calcit

Biesterfeld is expanding its portfolio in the field of polymer additives and, as part of a new partnership with Alpha Calcit, is adding the flame-retardant products of the “Alfrimal” brand to its range. At the same time, Alpha Calcit is expanding its existing distribution network through the cooperation.

The agreement covers the distribution of the “Alfrimal” and “Alfrimal” MG product lines in Europe, including Turkey. The focus is particularly on manufacturers in the masterbatch and compounding sectors with small and medium-volume requirements. Biesterfeld will handle distribution and will rely on local warehousing to enable faster and more reliable supply to customers.

The “Alfrimal” product family comprises aluminium trihydroxide (ATH) and magnesium hydroxide (MDH). Both substance groups are used as halogen-free flame retardants and are applied, among other things, in the formulation of flame-retardant polymer compounds. The products are aimed at applications in plastics processing, particularly where flame-retardant properties are required in polymer compounds.

According to Biesterfeld, the partnership complements its existing additives business in the plastics sector. Alpha Calcit sees the cooperation as strengthening distribution in the masterbatch segment, as well as improving logistics and cost efficiency.

Biesterfeld is an internationally active distribution and service company for plastics, rubber, specialty chemicals and ingredients. Founded in Hamburg in 1906, the group employs more than 1,100 people at over 50 locations in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa and generated revenue of EUR 1.29 billion in the 2024 financial year.

Alpha Calcit, headquartered in Cologne, is a family-owned supplier of white fillers for various industrial sectors. Founded in 1919, the company is vertically integrated and, within the group, covers the value chain from raw material deposits, mining, processing and production through to distribution.
