interpack 2026: Packaging and processing technology industry gathers in Düsseldorf

Starting today, more than 2,800 exhibitors from 65 countries are presenting at interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf. The trade fair is regarded as the world’s largest event for processing and packaging and covers the entire value chain of packaging and processing technology. Exhibits include packaging machines, complete production lines, materials, packaging products, and process technology for industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and industrial goods. Many systems are demonstrated live, allowing production processes to be experienced directly on the exhibition grounds.

A central topic at interpack 2026 is the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The new EU requirements, which are set to become mandatory from August 2026, affect material usage, packaging design, and production processes. The trade fair showcases how companies are adapting their strategies through new materials, design-for-recycling concepts, and modifications to existing production systems.

This transformation is taking place in a comparatively stable industrial environment. The German food-processing and packaging machinery sector continues to be one of the more resilient segments of industry. According to the VDMA, 2025 was marked by production growth and high export values. Growth is being driven in particular by rising global demand for food and pharmaceuticals, as well as the importance of secure supply chains. Packaging plays a key role in transport, product protection, shelf life, and availability.

In terms of content, interpack 2026 focuses on the themes Smart Manufacturing, Innovative Materials, and Future Skills. Smart Manufacturing highlights data-driven and resource-efficient production concepts, including applications in artificial intelligence, robotics, and automation. Innovative Materials focuses on new packaging materials, additional functionalities, and recyclable packaging concepts. Future Skills addresses the requirements for qualifications and working environments in increasingly digitalized production settings.

The exhibition is complemented by an extensive supporting program. At the interpack Spotlight Forum, experts discuss automation, regulatory developments, and sustainability. The “Save Food” initiative addresses the reduction of food losses along the value chain and demonstrates the contribution of packaging and processing technology to supply security. With Women in Packaging, the trade fair also offers a platform for exchange, visibility, and networking for women in the industry.

interpack takes place from May 7 to May 13, 2026, at the Düsseldorf exhibition grounds.
