Synthomer: Sale of Acrylates Business to Mutares

British specialty chemicals company Synthomer has agreed to sell its acrylates business to German investment group Mutares.

The two companies announced the signing of the agreement at the end of June. No financial details or additional terms of the transaction were disclosed. The deal is expected to close by the end of the third quarter of this year, subject to customary closing conditions.

As part of the transaction, Mutares will acquire Synthomer a.s., Synthomer’s Czech subsidiary, which operates a production site in Sokolov near Karlovy Vary manufacturing acrylic acid and acrylate monomers. The business, previously part of Synthomer’s Health & Protection and Performance Materials division, employs around 300 people and generated approximately EUR 110 million in revenue in the 2025 financial year, according to Mutares.

The divestment is part of Synthomer’s strategic transformation plan launched in autumn 2022, under which the company has been disposing of non-core businesses. In recent years, this included the sale of its compounds business to Belgian company Matco and its laminates and films business to Germany’s Surteco Group.

Synthomer manufactures liquid polymers for dispersions and coatings, as well as high-performance elastomers and additives used across a wide range of industries. Headquartered in London, the company employs approximately 3,800 people at more than 30 production sites across Europe, North America, and Asia, including a facility in Marl, Germany. For the 2025 financial year, Synthomer reported EBITDA of GBP 136 million (EUR 159 million) on revenue of GBP 1.739 billion (EUR 2.029 billion).
