Arburg: Acquisition of Stork Plastics Machinery B.V.

Arburg is acquiring Dutch injection moulding machine manufacturer Stork Plastics Machinery B.V. (Stork IMM), based in Hengelo. The purchase agreement between Arburg and the current owner, Stibbe Participaties B.V., was signed on 29 July 2026. Completion of the transaction is expected in September 2026. Financial details have not been disclosed.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Arburg by CFO Steffen Kroner and CTO Guido Frohnhaus. Stibbe Participaties B.V. was represented by its founder and shareholder, Philip Stibbe. Through the acquisition, both companies aim to strengthen their positions in the international market for plastic injection moulding machines.

Expansion in large machines and packaging applications
Stork IMM primarily develops and manufactures large, high-speed injection moulding machines for the production of thin-walled packaging. The company is particularly active in the clamping force range above 5,000 kilonewtons.

For Arburg, Stork IMM’s product range therefore complements its existing machine portfolio. The machine manufacturer is expanding its offering both in the high-clamping-force segment and in applications for the packaging industry.

Arburg CEO Dr Volker Nilles described the acquisition as a long-term strategic investment. The combination of the two product portfolios is intended to strengthen the company’s market position and open up additional customer segments.

Response to changing market conditions
The transaction is taking place in a market environment characterised by structural change. Key influencing factors include fluctuating demand, declining production volumes, increasing international competition and the growing importance of economies of scale.

Through the acquisition, Arburg is combining additional expertise and production capacity. At the same time, Stork IMM will gain access to Arburg’s international sales and service structures.

Expansion of sales, service and the supply chain
According to Stork CEO Eric Pans, integration into the Arburg Group is expected to support the company’s further development. Potential benefits include expanded international sales and service capabilities, a broader product range, and synergies in procurement and the supply chain.

Operational workflows and internal processes are also to be further developed. Stork IMM is expected to benefit in particular from Arburg’s global presence and organisational infrastructure.

Philip Stibbe stated that both companies share similar principles regarding long-term corporate development, a family-oriented corporate culture and industrial manufacturing in Europe. These similarities played a key role in the selection of the buyer.

Completion of the acquisition planned for September
The signing of the agreement marks the completion of the first formal step in the acquisition process. The stipulated closing conditions must still be met before the transaction can be completed.

According to the current schedule, the acquisition is expected to be completed within approximately two months, in September 2026.
