![]() ![]() Three split-design chillers, each with a capacity of 450 kW, installed in a space-saving container. - (Image: L&R Kältetechnik) The main exhibit has a footprint of 10 x 2.5 m. The container comprises a machine room with a propane chiller as well as a separate section for the pump and tank system, return filter, water treatment equipment, and control cabinet. Internal assembly, piping, and wiring are completed at the factory. At the installation site, essentially only the external connections need to be made. If production facilities are relocated or modified, the system can be moved and reconnected. To reduce energy consumption, L&R uses measures including outdoor-temperature-dependent floating condensing temperature control, variable-speed pumps and compressors, and free cooling to reduce the load on the chiller at low outdoor temperatures. The system is controlled by an individually programmed Siemens controller. Remote maintenance and PC-based remote access are available as options, while operating conditions are visualized on a touch panel. L&R uses propane (R290) as the refrigerant. This natural refrigerant has a low global warming potential (GWP) and zero ozone depletion potential (ODP). According to the company, appropriately designed systems can reduce the energy consumption of the drives by up to 80%. Under certain conditions, subsidies covering up to 45% of the investment costs may also be available. At Fakuma 2026, L&R will also showcase water treatment solutions. In addition to conventional filters and water treatment systems, the portfolio includes low-chemical processes such as the "ECS system." Suitable water quality is intended to limit deposits and the associated efficiency losses in the cooling circuit. Another focus is industrial heat pumps. They make it possible to use waste heat from refrigeration systems for heating applications within the plant or to feed it into local heating networks. According to L&R, the company is increasingly implementing such systems for plastics processing operations as well.
