Barlog Plastics: Rapid Tooling Accelerates Development of Injection-Molded Components

At Fakuma 2026, Barlog Plastics GmbH will present solutions for rapid tooling, prototyping and the development of customized materials. The company will demonstrate how plastic components can be tested under near-production conditions and manufactured in small series.

Rapid tooling involves producing injection molds based on 3D CAD data. These tools are used to manufacture prototypes, pre-series components and small production runs. According to Barlog Plastics, virtually all commercially available thermoplastics can be processed using this method. Unlike processes that produce only visual or functional models, it allows developers to test components made from the intended production material under typical injection-molding conditions.

Early testing is designed to provide insights into material behavior, component geometry and processability. Design changes can thus be incorporated before the production mold is engineered. The aim is to reduce development risks and the number of iterations required while shortening the transition to series production.

Through its “protosys” business unit, Barlog Plastics combines prototype and small-series production with in-house moldmaking and an injection-molding technical center. The company also offers material selection, component design and CAE simulations. In addition to conventional injection molding, its processing capabilities include multi-component, liquid silicone and magnetic injection molding.

Barlog Plastics aims to cover every development stage—from material selection and simulation to moldmaking and production—within an integrated process chain. Data and experience gained during the prototype phase can be incorporated directly into the design of subsequent series production.
