Dreher: Amis acquires insolvent granulator manufacturer

Aachen-based granulator manufacturer Dreher has been acquired by Amis Recycling Technology following its insolvency. The new owner took over the business on September 1, 2026, in an asset deal that includes the company premises, production facilities and machinery. Operations will continue under the name Dreher GmbH.

The new Dreher GmbH is headed by managing directors Thomas Ottenthal and his son Benjamin Ottenthal. Lucas Maulbetsch, Thomas Ottenthal’s son-in-law, has been granted sole power of procuration.

Heinrich Dreher GmbH & Co. KG filed for insolvency in early June 2026. The Aachen Local Court formally opened insolvency proceedings on September 1, 2026, under case number 93 IN 119/26. Attorney Dr. Dirk Wegener was appointed insolvency administrator.

Operations continued during the preliminary insolvency proceedings while a search for an investor was underway. A buyer from within the industry was ultimately found in Amis Maschinen-Vertriebs GmbH, based in Zuzenhausen near Heidelberg.

According to the “Aachener Zeitung”, Amis employs around 65 people and specializes in machinery and equipment for size reduction and recycling applications. The company supplies both new and used machinery and offers granulators, shredders, spare parts, maintenance and repair services. Dreher machines have already been part of the range of equipment serviced by Amis for some time.

Dreher was founded in Aachen in 1948 and has been manufacturing granulators for the plastics processing industry since 1958. According to the company, more than 13,000 granulators and systems have been produced to date. Its portfolio includes granulators and related components as well as complete systems for processing and recycling thermoplastics.

The acquisition brings Dreher’s three-generation history as a family-owned business to an end. According to the information published so far, production at the Aachen site is set to continue.

Thomas Ottenthal also confirmed to plasticker that the newly established Dreher GmbH will make its first trade-show appearance at Fakuma 2026.
