Feller Engineering: New Hot Runner Controllers for Up to 480 Control Zones

At Fakuma 2026, Feller Engineering GmbH will present a completely redesigned generation of its “MCS” hot runner controllers. The units are designed for applications with 6 to 144 control zones; the previous series covered a maximum of 120 zones. For larger applications, several controllers can be networked together to handle a total of up to 480 zones and operated centrally.

The new generation comprises four enclosure sizes, ranging from desktop units to tower systems. Compared with the previous models, the footprint has been reduced. The desktop units for up to 24 zones require 323 x 411 mm (W x D), which, according to the company, is more than 25 percent less space. The mini tower for applications with up to 48 zones uses the same footprint. The existing functions and connection options have been retained.

For commissioning after a mold change, Feller Engineering has integrated a quick-start assistant. It guides users through the wiring test, automatic group assignment, and the configuration of temperature, boost, and function parameters. Operation is via capacitive displays. Depending on the version, either an integrated 7-inch display or an external 7- or 12-inch operating panel is available. The external panels are equipped with USB and Ethernet ports and can be positioned using interface cables up to 10 meters long.

For fault diagnostics, the controller generates a QR code in the event of a malfunction. After scanning it with a smartphone, a web application opens with an illustrated, step-by-step guide for identifying and rectifying the fault. This is intended to support troubleshooting directly at the machine and reduce the duration of production interruptions.

Another new feature is mains voltage measurement, which enables heating output and energy consumption to be calculated and displayed both for individual zones and for the entire control unit. Other available functions include wiring checks, continued heating in the event of sensor failure, leakage and short-circuit detection, as well as additional monitoring functions. Communication via “OPC UA” also remains part of the system, as does a user interface available in 14 languages.
